Role Summary
The holder of the position is responsible for IP matters in the field of transportation, globally and with especially responsibility for China and rest of Asia. The position supports MANN+HUMMEL Group IP and reports to the Head of Patents
Main Tasks
Main Accountabilities
- Responsibility for handling IP rights, patent drafting and prosecution, freedom to operate evaluations, and IP enforcement in the field of Transportation
- Collaborate with all stakeholders and consult in all IP legal and related subject matters
- Be strategic and forward-thinking when it comes to identifying innovation and developing IP protection strategies and secure freedom to enter new field of businesses. Actively encourage the development teams to improve MANN + HUMMEL’s IP portfolio
- Provide IP support for contracts and negotiation thereof in cooperation with MANN + HUMMEL’s legal department
- Perform IP trainings
Internal & External Working Relationships
- Internal: R&D and other functions of the MANN+HUMMEL Group
- Internal: MANN+HUMMEL Group IP department
- External: IP legal service providers and other suppliers
Your Profile
- Qualified national Patent Attorney in a major jurisdiction and at least 3-year PQE, or if less, at least 8 years of experience in patent work
- A university degree in physics, engineering, or another related area of study
- Strong experience in area of transportation, drafting and negotiating of contracts, M&A projects, and litigation; working experiences in automotive industry is a plus
- Experience in licensing, joint development agreements, relationship with universities and startup companies is an advantage
- Experienced in Patent drafting and prosecution, and patent litigation
- In-house and patent law firm experience is a plus
- Experience with China litigation is an advantage
- View IP with a strategic and “IP as a business asset” mindset by anticipating future business, competitive and legal risks, and seeking creative solutions and opportunities
- Ability to work independently
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
- Excellent skills in English, both oral and written; any other language skills, especially Chinese, are an advantage
- Willingness to travel
