Role Summary

3rd Shift Team Leader – South Campus (Assembly)

 

The 3rd Shift Team Leader is responsible for leading assembly operations on the South Campus, with a balanced focus on people leadership and technical execution. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production by supervising team members, supporting equipment and process performance, and driving continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership & Supervision

  • Ensure all team members are properly trained, qualified, and following standard work.
  • Plan, assign, and direct daily work in alignment with the production schedule.
  • Partner with the Production Supervisor to review and approve daily attendance and time records.
  • Support performance management, including evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
  • Lead effective shift handoff communication with incoming Team Leaders.
  • Promote a culture of engagement by encouraging participation in Kaizen and Lean initiatives.
  • Maintain accountability for adherence to company policies, safety standards, and Production Basics.
  • Serve as a back-up Production Supervisor as needed.

Technical & Operational Execution

  • Start up, operate, and shut down assembly equipment according to established procedures.
  • Perform changeovers and adjust assembly equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Monitor hourly production performance by visiting each cell; initiate escalation when targets are not met.
  • Identify and respond immediately to quality issues to minimize defects and production loss.
  • Document defects, scrap, and ensure proper material disposition in accordance with VWI.
  • Perform downtime analysis, troubleshoot issues, and complete first-level mechanical repairs.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance and Tooling to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Prepare and store fixtures and tooling at the end of production runs; tag tools per maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure correct Visual Work Instructions (VWI), tools, and documentation are available and followed.
  • Verify completion of cell startup checks and required documentation.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance

  • Lead and audit Rapid Problem Solving (RPS) activities within assigned cells.
  • Drive adherence to Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) standards and audit completion.
  • Own Layered Process Audits (LPA) for assigned areas and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Support development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs), including OEE and uptime/downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with 5S and Production Basics standards across all work areas.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform duties of an Operator or Material Handler as required to support production needs.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient workplace.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience (assembly preferred).
  • Demonstrated mechanical and basic electrical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of Production Basics, Lean principles, and continuous improvement tools.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., data entry, reporting, production systems).
