ROLE SUMMARY
This is an Onsite position based at our location in Portage, MI.

The Manufacturing Engineer will be very hands-on and is responsible for the effective launch of new products and seamless transition of current products from advanced engineering to operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists and trains production with troubleshooting process, equipment, or tooling related issues
- Actively engages line side production boards to identify opportunities for improvement
- Creates, maintains, updates, and audits Visual Work Instructions and Standard Work for operators in assigned production cells
- Originates statements of work specifications for changes to existing machines and fixtures
- Attends new design proposal reviews and makes recommendations regarding manufacturability and compatibility with current manufacturing operations
- Attends layout reviews for new products and makes recommendations for process flow, product assembly, and equipment
- Performs internal process development of new and existing tooling
- Reviews the performance of any process changes or machine improvements with the Quality department to ensure compliance with customer requirements
- Performs revisions to the process FMEA, control plan, and production flow for design change
- Maintains required skills through training and studying of engineering and technical publications to keep current on technological changes and developments in the industry
- Performs Investigation and implementation of counter measures to any internal and external quality or safety concerns
- Facilitates process / equipment training classes to elevate production group skills and abilities
- Adheres to customer specific requirements and specifications
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field plus 2 years’ experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, OR a High School diploma/GED and 5 or more years’ direct experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Required Skills:

Knowledge of mechanics of machines and motion, heat transfer, fluid dynamics and material tolerances

Manufacturing processes with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment

Knowledge of basic machine electrical wiring

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (e.g.: Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Exposure to industrial automation and/or robotics, including automated assembly, material handling, or vision/inspection systems

Ability to support basic integration, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives
Preferred Experience and Skills:

Automotive industry manufacturing experience

Understanding of injection molding and plastics processing

Experience using SIMS, CAD software

Experience using and ERP system (SAP preferred)

Knowledge of various plastic welding processes (e.g.: vibration welding, hot plate welding, laser welding, sonic welding)

Experience working with 3rd party contractors for special projects /repairs
