Role Summary

The Traffic / Logistics Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the efficient movement of inbound and outbound freight while supporting daily shipping, receiving, transportation, and logistics activities. 

 

The ideal candidate is highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and comfortable resolving transportation and shipping issues as they arise.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinate and schedule inbound and outbound freight, including LTL, FTL, parcel, and expedited shipments.
  • Schedule carrier pickups and deliveries based on production schedules, customer requirements, and shipping priorities.
  • Communicate daily with carriers, freight brokers, suppliers, customers, and internal departments regarding shipment status.
  • Obtain freight quotes and assist with selecting appropriate carriers based on cost, service, availability, and delivery requirements.
  • Track shipments and proactively address delays, missed pickups, delivery issues, or other transportation concerns.
  • Prepare and maintain shipping documentation, including bills of lading (BOLs), packing lists, shipping labels, delivery documentation, and other required records.
  • Verify shipping information for accuracy prior to shipment.
  • Coordinate dock appointments and maintain daily shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Work closely with Shipping, Receiving, Inventory, Production, Planning, Customer Service, and Purchasing to support customer and operational requirements.
  • Ensure customer-specific routing and transportation requirements are followed.
  • Assist with freight claims, damaged shipments, shortages, and discrepancies.

Additional responsabilities

  • Review freight invoices and assist with identifying billing or rate discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate transportation and shipment records within applicable ERP, TMS, or internal systems.
  • Monitor open orders and shipments to ensure customer delivery expectations are met.
  • Communicate urgent shipment requirements and transportation issues to appropriate leadership.
  • Support expedited freight requests while identifying opportunities to minimize unnecessary premium freight costs.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with carriers and logistics partners.
  • Assist with monitoring carrier performance, including on-time pickup and delivery.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to freight cost, transportation efficiency, shipping processes, and customer service.
  • Ensure logistics activities comply with company policies, safety requirements, customer requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Logistics and Supply Chain teams as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, shipping, receiving, traffic coordination, or a related manufacturing/distribution environment preferred.
  • Experience working with freight carriers, brokers, and transportation providers strongly preferred.
  • Manufacturing or distribution experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of shipping, transportation, and logistics operations
  • Expertise in LTL, FTL, parcel, and expedited freight services - Proficient in handling bills of lading, freight documentation, and carrier scheduling
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
  • Capable of prioritizing various shipments and requests in a dynamic setting - High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective problem-solving capabilities for transportation and delivery challenges
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple departments and organizational levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; SAP experience is advantageous
